R/C pro series round 1 in the books.
As racers trickled in thursday, they were in awe when they laid eyes on the new track. We all hovered around the fence wishing we could just get 5 min on the new layout but it remained untouched. 4 am friday morning rolled around pretty early for some volunteer drivers. Our local news was on site with cameras in hand and we were live on television from 5am to 7am. Big thanks to Carlton for being our spokesman and a big thanks to all the drivers who participated. Shortly after the camera man left, the bottom fell out and the rain came down. This shut down practice till after 3pm. We did manage to practice from 3pm till 10pm and the track was unbelievable. Traction was awesome.
Saturday morning brought more rain and lots of it. we all thought the race was doomed. Somebody mentioned saw dust and within 30 min a trailer backed up with over 1000 lbs of the great smell of pine, birch and cedar. We have all talked about doing it but no one has ever really put saw dust down. Well, it worked and before you know it, we were starting the first round of qualifying. We almost managed to get all the way through round one when the bottom fell out again. Sunday morning brought even more rain. We managed to dry the track one more time but this time the traction outa this world. Finally we finished one full round of qualifying and rolled right in to the mains.
The mains were worth watching. Expert buggy A-main was a race to watch. All eyes were glued to David Joor. David had battery trouble in qualifying thus putting him dead last in the F-main. Main-by-Main he bumped his way to the "A" where ultimately he won it. There was alot of good racing and I'm sorry for skipping though the other classes but by this time I was busy helping people out of the mud. Sunday night 12am once the last motor home was pulled out of the mud, our facility looked like Woodstock 2006. Mud everywhere. I don't think I saw one blade of green grass. Since then, our track and facility has made a full recovery and is better than ever. The track held together and is still smooth as of today. All the grass is back green. Forgive me for leaving out so many of the finer details but it was a crazy weekend.
On behalf of N.L.R.C. I would like to thank everyone that attended and helped make this race happen. Despite the weather, I hope everbody enjoyed themselves and will come and race again.
